As well as this, SD3 includes thousands of MIDI grooves, machine-learning drum replacement and a whole lot more.Īs mentioned, you can further expand Superior Drummer 3 with Toontrack's SDX Expansion packs too, and with this offer you can get one for free with your copy of SD3. As well as its massive core library, Superior Drummer allows you deep editing of individual sounds as well as a fully-stocked studio-style mixer loaded with effects to help you craft your sound. The library was created using a Holy Grail list of classic and modern snares, kits and cymbals with the help of the legendary George Massenburg. Superior Drummer 3 itself is an absolutely mammoth, 230GB collection of drum sounds.

Next, if you buy a copy of Toontrack's Superior Drummer 3 you'll receive a free SDX expansion pack worth $149. Drummer - New York Studios Vol 3 SDX Expansion Pack sees the Toontrack come full circle with a return to Avatar studios. Explore more great Sweetwater Black Friday deals. As for samples to use in Slate Trigger I really enjoy this setup, and it doesn't require you buying any extra samples other than the ones already mentioned.First up, Sweetwater has Toontrack EZdrummer 2 marked down by $70 (that's a 47% discount), giving you access to its multi-sampled drum kit sounds, captured in world-class studios.įor non-drummers, EZdrummer also comes with a vast library of MIDI grooves and fills which can be played through the software's sound library, meaning that you'll never struggle to come up with a great drum part again.Īs well as its core library EZdrummer can also make use of Toontrack's EZX Expansion packs, giving you a wide range of studio-quality add-on sounds from hip-hop to country, captured in some of the finest studios in the world for just $79! That way you'll have the best of both worlds. My recommendation would be to get SD + Metal Foundry and then later down the line buy Slate Trigger 2 Platinum. The MIDI pack that comes with Metal Foundry also happens to be fantastic. As you can hear the cymbals are definitely still good but they took quite a lot of work compared to Metal Foundry's cymbals, which are practically good to go out of the box. The kick and snare have been replaced with other direct and room samples and everything was mixed outside of Superior. Here's a sound sample of Metal Machinery's cymbals, rooms and toms. There are some good Combined Presets from good producers in the box when you buy Superior but to be honest it was made to be mixed properly in your DAW, not in Superiors own mixer.

I do however tend to replace the shells with samples I enjoy more and that aren't used quite as often in the metal community which often leads me to use Metal Foundry.Īs for a good sound right out of the box, the goal of Superior Drummer is to basically give you access to exactly what was recorded, meaning there will be flaws and imperfections which need to be adressed.

After owning and using both for several years I've come to the conclusion that I really like the cymbals in Metal Foundry and the shells in Metal Machinery.
